A dehumidifier is used to remove excess moisture from the air by moving the air over a surface that is cooler than the temperature of the moisture. The moisture is condensed in this process similar to how moisture condenses in a glass. A dehumidifier is an excellent solution for those who suffer from asthma or allergies.

If you live in a home that is too moist, it can pose serious health risks because the moisture can lead to rotting, mold growth, and the growth of microorganisms. Dust mites breed in homes with high levels of humidity. Your nasal passages can become irritated. Those who already have other health conditions will feel the effects worse.

On average, you want your home to have 50% or less humidity. Some people need more or less to be comfortable. If you find condensation in your home on the windows or experience respiratory issues consider lowering the moisture level to 30% and see if you get any relief. You can use a hydrometer to measure the amount of humidity in your home.

There are many types of dehumidifiers to choose from. The more moisture you have in your home the larger size you will need. Some homes need more than one to deal with the moisture effectively. Look for ones that have a two speed fan as they are quieter and more energy efficient. Some dehumidifiers have to be placed by a drain for the moisture to be released. Others have a tub that you manually empty. They both get the job done so that is a personal preference.

It is important that you keep your dehumidifier clean or it will not work properly for you. The filters need to be cleaned at least every two weeks. Each brand of dehumidifier will come with specific cleaning instructions that you need to follow.

Dehumidifier After a Flood

Dehumidifier After a Flood

If you have just had a flood you should go out and get yourself a dehumidifier. This is something you need to do as soon as possible. Going out and buying one today is one of the smartest decisions you can make.

Floods can cause mold growth within the drywall of your walls. If you can get dehumidification in there as quickly as possible you might be able to save some of your walls from having to be replaced. However, a delay in dehumidification can be the difference between replacing drywall and keeping your drywall in tact.

After a flood, you need to get the best dehumidifier possible. Do not go out there and buy a dehumidifier with a 20 gallon bucket. Try to go industrial strength if possible, but a 70 or 80 gallon bucket could work as well. The goal is to only have to empty the bucket once a day so that you can have it run as close to 100% of the time as possible.

Make sure to buy or rent an industrial size fan as well. A combination of a fan and dehumidifier is a very smart choice to prevent mold growth. That is still not to say that the carpet will not need to be replaced, but if you can prevent the mold growth within walls, couches, or anything else that the water touched then you need to do that right now.

There are companies out there that will rent industrial dehumidifiers especially if you are located in a flood zone. In some cases this is a smart idea, but if you think you might get flooded again and/or if it is your basement that got flooded then you very well might consider purchasing one. This way you can use the dehumidifier in the basement even when your basement is not flooded.

After a flood, dehumidification is essential to preventing a horrible smell. The smell of mold kicks in really quickly and without a dehumidifier it can linger for weeks.

Once you have had a flood, go out right away and buy a dehumidifier. It just might save you thousands of dollars in flood repair costs.

Humidifier or Dehumidifier - Which is Right for You?

Humidifier or Dehumidifier - Which is Right for You?

The humidity level within our homes is very important to our health, too much or too little humidity can cause everything from condensation and mold to dry skin and respiratory issues. Our homes and our bodies depend on the right humidity levels to stay strong and healthy.

Humidity is described as the water vapor levels that are in the air that we breathe. When the air warms up, the vapor levels drop. As the air becomes heavy with rain, the levels begin to rise. Either of these extremes causes us to become uncomfortable and more susceptible to illnesses.

In the winter, the humidity levels tend to be low due to continued use of furnaces and other heating devices. When this happens, we are left with dry skin, lips and eyes, which are uncomfortable, but can be dealt with. However, for some people, especially the very young, very old or those already compromised by sickness, the dryer air can leave them more susceptible to respiratory issues such as bronchitis and asthma.

The use of a home humidifier will bring the air moisture levels to where they need to be. There are several types of humidifiers to choose. A popular type of devise works by warming up water from a reservoir tank, the evaporated water is then dispersed through the home with the use of a fan system. Another system utilizes a continuous mist or steam that is dispersed through the whole house, putting the needed moisture into the air.

A dehumidifier addresses the opposite problem. When the air that we breathe becomes saturated with water, we become uncomfortable, the air is sticky and it is harder to breath. The most common way to deal with this problem is with the use of an air conditioner, which literally sucks the water from the air. This effectively lowers the moisture levels and makes us more comfortable.

If an air conditioner is not an option, the next most common way to control high humidity levels is with the use of a bathroom or kitchen exhaust fan; these are the two places where high humidity levels are frequently found. The exhaust fan pulls the high moisture air out of the room, resulting in a more normal air/water level.

Another way to dehumidify the air in a house is with a dehumidifier. The use of a dehumidifier becomes important in areas of the house that never seem to dry out, such as the basement; or if someone in the home has allergies to mold. Most molds are very common and are not anything to worry about, except in the case of an allergy sufferer. In this case, a dehumidifier should be used in the bedrooms of the person with allergies as well as in or around the high humidity areas of the home.

Humidifiers and dehumidifiers can be found in a size that is right for every house, in fact for every room of the house. They are sold in a variety of stores from home improvement stores to discount chains, from drugstores to online vendors. If you are unsure if the use of a humidifier or dehumidifier is what is needed for your health issues, talk with your doctor, he or she will let you know if the use of one of these devises will alleviate your symptoms.

Are Indoor Humidity Levels Affecting Your Health?

Online Weather Check Now

ItemTitle

The ideal indoor humidity level is either 35% to 45% or 40% to 50% depending on who you ask. Thankfully, the human body is quite flexible and you do not have too aim at an exact figure. The important thing is to avoid extremes. Living indoors is not entirely natural. The artificial environments that we create for ourselves can sometimes cause extremes of humidity to occur. For short periods of time this is nothing to worry about, but the long term effects can be quite unpleasant.

If the humidity level regularly exceeds 50% you are likely to experience a rapidly increasing dust mite population, which will affect allergy sufferers. Permanently damp rooms tend to have a musty smell. The damp air is a perfect breeding ground for mold, mildew and fungus, which can cause serious health problems. Where ever possible the cause of such conditions should be removed, but it is not always that simple and a dehumidifier may be required. A modern dehumidifier with built in humidistat can be programmed to maintain a humidity level below 50%. There are a wide variety available, so it is important to find the correct type for your situation. A useful guide to dehumidifiers can be found at DehumidifierTips.com

Consistently low humidity levels are also bad. This tends to occur when the weather is cold outside and we turn up the heat in our homes. The most noticeable effects are a sore throat and sinus pain, symptoms that are common in modern society at certain times of year. You can also get dry skin and itchy eyes. The solution is to buy a humidifier that will put moisture back into the air. Like dehumidifiers, these can be programmed to operate automatically, and there is a huge range available that make the most of a variety of different humidification techniques. These techniques are explored in detail at HumidifierInformation.com together with everything else you need to know on the subject.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, maybe you should buy a hygrometer (humidity meter) and take some readings to find out if humidity is the cause. With modern technology at your disposal there is no need for your health to suffer.

If you live in an area that has a wet climate, or perhaps a humid one, you should consider using a dehumidifier in your home. Humid air is air with a high density of water, for this reason you will find that your home's interior will experience a negative effect. There are a number of negative effects that humidity has on your home and yourself. Long-term exposures to humid air will damage your home and its contents unless you take some precautionary methods such as using a dehumidifier to filter water out of the air.

With high water content in air, you will usually find long term damage to your house and the interior in the form of mould. These bacteria can present health threats to you and your family, as well as any stored item. The great benefit to using a dehumidifier is that you are able to place the machine in a particular room, or problem area, and leave it to clear the moisture from the air. Closing windows and doors will help the machine work its magic.

You will find many different dehumidifiers on the market. Choose one that will best suit your individual needs in terms of size. It is also recommended that you buy or rent a popular branded dehumidifier, which usually come with a guarantee. Consider a rental machine to try it out, and to asses how effective, it will be for your needs. It may be worth your while to get quotes and compare cost effectiveness of rentals.

Dehumidifiers are portable machines that can easily be moved around the house, this will ensure your whole house gets suitable dehumidification to clear moisture from the air. Often consumers will find that there is one particular problem area in the home, therefore, your portable dehumidifier can be moved to this area, and stored neatly away until needed in the future. With plug-in dehumidifiers, you will find that your electricity usage is greatly increased; however, when you consider the daily damage on your home and your family's health, an increased electricity bill will be worth it in the end.

For a more comfortable home and a healthy living space, consider the useful and effective dehumidifier. Try a dehumidifier out with a specialist rental company to see the effective results these machines have on your home. Get professional advice on the best dehumidifier for your individual needs, for office or home; choose a reliable, experienced rental company to ensure you get the most suitable dehumidifier.

Major Causes of Road Accidents

Samsung Galaxy
ItemTitle

There is nothing new about road accidents. During the recent festive holidays in Malaysia, the 3 main causes of road accidents have been pin-pointed. The 3 causes will be discussed in detail below.

The first major cause is sleepy drivers. Drivers who are driving on a long distance trip tend to fall asleep when driving. The long driving hours would most certainly take a toll on the driver's concentration while on the road.

To avoid accidents due to this cause, drivers should plan several short stops during the long trip. Make regular stops for either a caffeine boost or short naps to keep concentration at a high.

During this time of the year, heavy downpours are to be expected. During a heavy rain, a driver's range of visibility is greatly reduced. Whenever the vehicle in front makes an emergency brake, drivers should be able to react in time.

Due to the rain, the driver behind might not be able to notice and react accordingly. Therefore, rivers should reduce speed and take caution to avoid such accidents especially when driving in a heavy rain.

No matter often we've been told to drive safely, there are errant drivers out there who seem to always be in a rush. Though the speed limit is set at 110km/h, these drivers could be seen speeding at speeds higher than permitted. No amount of summonses could keep these drivers at bay, endangering other drivers on the road.

Drivers should avoid these major causes of road accident and learn to appreciate life.

Dehumidifier and Humidifiers - A Breeding Ground For Mold, Algae and Bacteria

Dehumidifiers are great for removing excess humidity in a home temporarily. The difference between a Humidifier and a Dehumidifier is that a Humidifier adds moisture to dry air and a Dehumidifier removes moisture from humid air. Both can have the same problem of mold, algae and bacteria buildup in its standing water. These units have standing water in them that requires you to clean them on a regular basis. Monthly is the preferable option. Why, microorganisms will grow rapidly in standing water.

There are many health benefits to both types of units. A dehumidifier removes excess humidity and prevents moisture from accumulating in your home. A humidifier adds moisture to dry winter air to restore moisture to your skin, lips, throat, and nose. Anyone who suffers from sinusitis in the winter knows how dry air can be irritating and painful to the nasal membranes. I find the same problem when I leave S. Florida and go to places like Las Vegas, Nevada in the summer time due to the dry climate there. The first few days, all I do is drink a lot of water but then my nose and lips start to crack from
the dryness.

Great health benefits are available from both types of units. They must be cared for and cleaned properly. If not, you might experience some serious, unwanted side effects from using them. If you don't clean your dehumidifier or humidifier on a monthly basis, you risk contaminating the air with mold, algae and bacteria. The difference between these units and an A/C Unit is that the A/C Unit drains the water outside away from the unit. The Dehumidifier and Humidifier both have standing water in them at all times.

There are many types of these units out there, some have built-in UV Lights to help keep microorganisms under control. Most require the good old fashion cleaning method of washing out the tank with soap and water. The best method is to follow the Manufacturer's Instructions for cleaning your dehumidifier or humidifier. Follow the instruction manual carefully or you can void your guarantee if you do it the wrong way or use the wrong cleaning solution. If you do not have the manual, call the manufacturer and see if the manual is available online to download. Most do have it available now. There are some companies that offer cleaning services for these types of units. You will find them in the Yellow Pages.

In conclusion, keep both types of units clean at all times and you will experience improved health benefits in the dry winter time and humid summer time. Be sure to keep both units out of the reach of children. Lastly, watch out for possible leaks from both types of units. I have seen many dehumidifiers leak and cause more mold problems than they had before; because they were not be taken care of properly. Inspect both units on a daily basis, never leave them running when you leave the house. Run them only when you are there to prevent any type of unwanted leak. Lastly, keep these units away furniture, drapes, or walls.

How to Get Rid of Sour House Smell

Samsung Galaxy
ItemTitle

You should start with the basics first; chances are, if you've reached the point of looking for help in terms of getting rid of sour house smells on the Internet, then you need to do some serious cleaning. Set aside a day, or a weekend, specifically for cleaning.

If you don't want to or you can't do it alone, enlist the help of those you live with. Perhaps you can also ask for your friends' help. Bribe them with pizza and beer or brochettes and wine if you have to. Afterwards, use the following suggestions to get rid of your house smell, and maintain a fresh, aromatic or at least breathable living space.

Sour House Smell Removal

* Dry out the living quarters first, and then clean out your basement so it is empty of anything that can hold moisture and run it down there as well. Remove cardboard boxes.

* If you have a forced air heating and cooling system with ducts on your home, get the ducts checked. Decades-old houses can have mold, lots of built-up of dirt and other nasty stuff that can cause a foul odor. Your ducts can also be rusting now, so you may need to have them changed.

The newer ducts available on the market today are much more energy efficient. You'll save air conditioning costs this summer by getting new ducts. You can also hire a company that cleans ducts to inspect the ducts you have right now. Some have a camera that can show you what is in your ducts. Be careful who you get! Use a reputable company and check with the Better Business Bureau. Ask them for references. Some only clean a short way and spray a deodorizer. The estimate to get your ducts cleaned can be hundreds of dollars less than getting new ones.

* Check your carpets. Sometimes carpets are steam cleaned unprofessionally and a lot of water remains. This causes mildewing and a related musty odor.

Remove your carpets and put in hardwood or similar type flooring, with area rugs that can be cleaned outside of the home and dried before returning to the area. If your carpets are ten years old, it doesn't hurt to remove them.

* You may have a mold of some sort growing in your carpet or behind your wallpaper. Create a bleach solution (1:10 to start, then up to 1:4 if it does not work) and gently wash down all of your walls and mop boards. Rent a hot water carpet cleaner and put a bleach solution into the reservoir rather than the soap they try to sell you. Add a drop or two of dish soap, but add no more. It is the water that cleans, not the soap. Adding too much soap will actually make your carpet dirty because it does not rinse out of the carpet and soap bonds with dirt.

* Though chlorinated bleach is very notorious in discoloring a lot of things, you may risk using that for really heavy-smelling jobs, even on dark carpets. If you're still wary, there's always oxygen bleach. It kills "everything" that may be causing an odor and the hot water cleaning really helps allergies as well.

Keep babies off the rugs as breathing chemicals of any sort is especially bad for them. If the smell comes back more quickly than you think it should, get a dehumidifier.

* Never run a dehumidifier where you have an open window or you will dry out the immediate atmosphere of your home. An air conditioner actually works even better because of the filtering system in it, but if it is too cold where you live to still be using one, then stick with the dehumidifier.

* To rid your linoleum or hardwood floors of that not-so-fresh-smell, simply mix a 3:1 solution of warm water and white vinegar in your mop bucket and get to work. Remember to crack a window or two. Vinegar has a good clean smell, but it's a strong one.

Sour House Smell Removing Products

* Buy a large pump of Febreze since it works on everything. Smelly hampers, sticky cars, sleeping bags that reek of camp fire... you name the smell, Febreze can quell. You can get it at most supermarkets.

Another idea is to use a citrus odor neutralizing spray; it's so effective that beauticians actually use this at salons to get rid of perm smell.

* An Ozone Generator or Air-born Hydrogen Peroxide Device can also work, but they tend to be expensive and may not get to the root of the problem. Covering or filtering odors is always more costly than eliminating their source.

* If you want something a little cheaper, you can try Ozium Air Freshener-it's the best way to keep the air in your home or work space clean and smelling fresh. Ozium does not cover up the odors associated with sour smelling houses - it eliminates them!

Ozium, the original air purifier, is a chemical agent that actually eliminates unpleasant odors and reduces airborne bacteria. Ozium actually cleanses the air through glycolized action. The Ozium glycolized formula acts directly on odor causing particles in the air.

* Electrostatic Air Filters are good for getting rid of dust buildup, but can be bad if they don't operate properly. Electrostatic air filters work by ionizing the air that passes through the filter, collecting dust from the air by creating an electrostatic field, like a comb collects particles after being run through dry hair quickly enough.

Why are electrostatic dust collectors be bad for you? If they don't operate properly, they can produce ozone, which is a respiratory irritant. So make sure you do your research before investing in one of these air filters.

* Try Renuzit, in any scent. If you can, try to find the Super Odor Killer scent. The fragrance in SOK (introduced in 1972) is not readily identifiable, because SOK uses a blend of perfumes left over when fragrance manufacturers produced a little too much for another company's orders.

This blend is not only good at masking a variety of odors, it can slightly be used at higher fragrance levels without overwhelming the user. The popular and more readily available Country Kitchen scent will also suffice.

* Fresh Wave has an array of all natural, non-toxic and earth friendly products for laundry, upholstery, floors and ventilation that are designed to attract, capture and neutralize sour house odors.

Sour House Smell Prevention

* The best way to stop sour house smell from building up is to clean as you go. Put things away as soon as you're done using them. Throw things away as soon you know you won't use them. Everyday maintenance is the key to a breathable, livable home.

Have a presence of mind when it comes to cleanliness. Create a small space for things to be donated and recycled and clear it out as soon as it gets full. Limit your storage space and "junk" drawers so you don't have the opportunity to just toss clutter in a closet and forget about it.

* People will tell you that the best way to get rid of mold - one of the main contributors of bad house odor - is to use an ionizing air purifier to help pull the pollutants and mold spores out of the air. Well, they're half right.

An air purifier isn't a bad idea for preventing mold growth, but those ionized air filters can cause health problems if they're not constructed properly. Sometimes if an ionizing air filter isn't built right, it will spit out ozone which, as scientists will tell you, is good for the atmosphere and bad for your lungs.

Serious complications can arise if you're using the wrong air purifier. Choose wisely and make sure you buy from a reputable company.

Inspect both units on a daily basis, never leave them running when you leave the house. Run them only when you are there to prevent any type of unwanted leak. Lastly, keep these units away furniture, drapes, or walls.

In this video I show the test setup used for a series of trials with the test cell that I made in HHO.2 ie the 100mm x 100mm 316 stainless steel plates with a one mm gap. I test in five volt steps from 5 to 30 volts and work out the efficiency. I used water from my dehumidifier fro these trials and there are no additives in the water. I give the test results in the video HHO.6 I was very surprised to find that the apparent resistance of the cell is dependent upon the applied voltage; this will become clear in the next video. Please remember that I am not setting out to produce large volumes of gas but I am trying to get an understanding about how to produce it efficiently. Thanks for watching. Kind Regards ...
